When I was in college, finish of the year awards had been really strict--no funny enterprise. They integrated the usual least absences, most enhanced student, greatest grades, highest test scores, and additional-curricular activity awards like most-useful-player, 1st-chair band-students, drama students getting awards for receiving a "one particular" in competitions, and journalist receiving awards for getting all-league or all-state honors. Extremely usual, and quite anticipated. Absolutely everyone who received an award knew beforehand that they had been going to get them.
Nevertheless, for most students the awards assembly was commonly boring, specially if they did not receive an award. Essentially, I've noticed very a handful of students sleeping by way of it. And frankly, why should not they? It has practically nothing to do with them, but they are nevertheless essential to watch, clap, and what ever other nonsense the teacher watching more than them wanted them to do.
The awards assembly was not a motivational knowledge. Watching an individual receive an award does not--at least necessarily--motivate a "C student" to receive all "A"s. Even if it did, the student may well not have had the signifies to do so.
There are quite a few components at play to motivate students to do superior. Confident, these whom receive an award are proud, specifically years down the road when they appear by means of their scrap book and come across them; on the other hand, for most students, it is nonetheless basically a waste of time.
So how do you make the finish of the year college awards far more attractive? By generating them fun and humorous, of course!
Here are a couple of of my favored concepts:
- Lead the assembly with a funny story by a teacher about an awards assembly they went to. Of course, it has to be fantastic humored, so anything like them not getting an award and getting disappointed is a very good decision. Or probably some other humorous story about a preceding awards assembly.
- Have awards such as "student most hated by teachers"--which need to go to a fantastic humored student who has brought on some difficulty but undoubtedly not the most hated. "Class clown award" is yet another straightforward selection in this division.
- Teachers can give a mini-show. A mime act, a a single-act play, singing, or teachers displaying off some of their uncommon talents. A mini-talent show, possibly.
Performing one thing like this is intended to maintain all students interested; they really should never be bored in college. It also acts as a way for students to acquire respect for their teachers by seeing them as human and not only as teaching robots.
To recap, finish of the year awards are a great way to award students; even so, it leaves a lot of just wishing for the assembly to finish. Rather, attempt mixing variables up a bit and adding humor and other fun activities to hold them interested.
